IT'S FINALLY TIME!
Posted: 1 May 2013. By: David Harris
Well, it is finally time for our third leg of our Aussie tour, Melbourne! I have to say, although I do love both Sydney and Brissy immensely, I am really excited about coming to Melbourne and splashing a lot of pink around (and some ratty corduroy too of course). It has been several years between drinks and I am looking forward catching up with the city I called home for about 5 years between when I did The Full Monty and Miss Saigon.
I am also busting out of my corduroy to get back to The Princess Theatre (fondly named The Prinny) where it all began for me some 14 years ago when I stood on stage for the first time in my first “big show”, The Boy From Oz!
Years earlier, I remember catching a bus (yes, a bus, before planes were invented. I AM that old) from my hometown in Maitland, NSW to go the The Prinny and watch the original production of Phantom of the Opera with Anthony Warlow. I sat in the theatre in awe of its beauty and charm watching the show that then sparked my love for the theatre and musicals. When curtain came down, I didn't want to leave the theatre and head back to my "normal" life and school, so to be standing on the stage years later in my first show… well it was literally a dream come true. I returned again to perform at The Prinny in the original production of Mamma Mia! and now it is Legally Blonde that takes me back to that very special theatre.
If reactions in both Sydney and Brisbane are anything to go by, I know Melbourne is going to love the show! Where else can you go for a belly-full of laughs (and maybe a tear) in the middle of winter? I am also looking forward to meeting many of the fans at stage door after the show before I head for a wine or two at one of the many great wine bars around the theatre. It's just what you have to do after a show, in winter, in Melbourne, isn't it? I have been chasing summer around the globe the last couple of years with Wicked and Legally Blonde, so its time to rug up with a nice shiraz!
If you see me around, please say G'day and have a great time watching the show.
See you at the Prinny!!
David

IT'S BEEN A WHILE...
Posted: 1 May 2013. By: Lucy Durack
Ok, so I know it's been a while since I last wrote- but there has been a lot going on! I thought it would be only polite of me to let you know what we've been up to...
We all arrived in Brisbane ready and raring to go!

Brisbane audiences certainly lived up to their great reputation with a fantastic opening night!

Probably most excitingly for many of us - we got a new co-star in the form of 1.5kg, 7 month old Audrey - our newest chihuahua, who is a absolutely gorgeous and a complete star! I had the task of taking her home for a slumber party one night so we could bond - which was definitely the best homework assignment of my life! Audrey is now firmly part of our cast - and Sparrow, Luka, Quinn and our fantastic dog trainer Peta's own dog Harrison (who also made his one night only debut during one of our Brisbane performances!) are making her feel very welcome - as are the rest of the cast and crew - the dog dressing room is so popular it even gives Millsy's dressing room a run for it's money!

Mel and Dave from Pondera Dance Physiotherapy in West End, Brisbane provided us with great care, physio sessions and pilates classes. They were absolutely wonderful and I LOVED working with them!

The audiences somehow seemed to get even better as the season went on and we enjoyed a great finish to our Brisbane stint - that we all celebrated in 80's style at a big party with all the cast and crew. David Harris seemed to read the invite quite creatively - going with an 'over 80s' look! Always the professional, he stayed in character all night and was completely hilarious!

Next up, my own dog Takse (also known as #taksethewonderdog - I am pretty biassed- but he is a truly excellent dog) and I hopped on the sofa and had a chat to Stav and Labby on channel 11's 'Couch time' - which was a lot of fun.
And here we are in Melbourne!
I love Melbourne - it's hard not to really, and it is very well suited to Legally Blonde- with it's shopping, it's dog friendliness and it's amazing theatres! I am lucky enough to have worked in Melbourne quite a few times now and I always have the BEST time! I am so excited to be performing at the beautiful Princess Theatre for the first time - many of us are and those who are returning assure us it is one of the loveliest theatres in the world - I know it certainly is as an audience member - so I can't wait! I did my first ever professional audition for the first job I ever got on the stage there- but the audition was for the Brisbane and Sydney seasons (of Mamma Mia) so I have never actually performed there- until now!
We were also all pretty chuffed to arrive in Melbourne and see that we have our very own tram!

I know there are many fun times ahead here in Victoria and we are all really looking forward to seeing you very soon at The Princess Theatre!
Love
Lucy

MEL B DROPS IN ON THE CAST
Posted: 22 January 2013
The Legally Blonde cast got the best Christmas surprise when Mel B and her daughter Phoenix dropped by recently for a secret backstage visit. After the show they were nice enough to be the surprise judges for the cast’s Christmas Doors competition. Within the theatre world it’s a tradition for the cast of a production to decorate their dressing room doors for Christmas. In 2012, the Legally Blonde cast decided to make the tradition into a friendly competition.
Although everyone’s doors were super creative, the official winner, according to Mel B and Phoenix, was the male ensemble’s door. After the well-deserved “snaps” were given, the cast and their two guests celebrated in style at the Legally Blonde cast and crew Christmas party.

HELEN DALLIMORE TO TO PLAY PAULETTE
Posted: 1 June 2012
Producers Howard Panter and John Frost today announced the final star cast members for the international hit musical LEGALLY BLONDE, which will have its Australian Premiere at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, The Star on September 21, 2012. Winner of 7 major awards including the coveted Best New Musical 2011 (Olivier Awards®) this all dancing, romantic comedy is about knowing who you are and showing what you’ve got!
The role of kooky beautician Paulette will be played by Helen Dallimore. Dallimore, a favourite of Sydney Theatre Company audiences from roles in Into the Woods, Pentecost and David Williamson’s Up For Grabs, made her West End debut as Glinda in the original London cast of Wicked. Her film and television credits include Mr Accident, The Day of the Roses and the 2001 television remake of South Pacific alongside Glenn Close and Harry Connick Jnr.
The final LEGALLY BLONDE ensemble roles have gone to Steve Danielsen, Euan Doidge and Adele Parkinson, joining Michelle Barr, Ash Bee, Renee Burleigh as Margot, Ali Calder as Vivienne, Ryan Gonzalez, Ed Grey, Matt Hamilton, Glenn Hill, Shaye Hopkins, Zoe Jarrett, Nicole Melloy, Ashlea Pyke as Serena, Elenoa Rokobaro, Andrew Ronay-Jenkings, Mike Snell as Kyle, Darren Tyler, Stephen Wheat, Teagan Wouters and Chloe Zuel as Pilar.
“It’s taken time to build the ideal cast and we’re thrilled with the calibre of our stars and members of the ensemble. Look out Sydney – LEGALLY BLONDE is almost here,” said Howard Panter and John Frost. “I know Australian audiences, just like those in the UK, will respond to the show’s wit, charm and pure joy. UK critics have been united in their praise of the quality and sophisticated style of the show. It has touched a very wide audience, from youngsters to grandmothers and middle-aged male accountants. And they’re all coming back to see it a second and third time. From the response we’ve had in Australia so far, we can see it’s going to have the same sort of reaction here.”

BEING TRUE TO YOURSELF
Posted: 7 May 2012
Mums play an important role in teaching us to be true to ourselves and sometimes reminding us along our life journey that authenticity is important for our happiness. So we asked the cast – how has your mum helped you to be true to yourself?
Lucy Durack and her Mum
Lucy Durack (Elle Woods) says: “My mum has always encouraged and continues to encourage my sisters and I to be true to ourselves, and has always led by example. She has taught us to be leaders rather than followers and to listen to our hearts. Mum is always honest, strong, fair, kind, humble, generous and so proud of us in everything we do. I think the fact that all three of us have pursued such different passions and careers is testament to mum always supporting us in finding what we think is important in life, sticking to that and not trying to be someone we're not. Mum is a great ambassador for gratitude- and often reminds us how lucky we are- which is one of my most important and valued life tools. Of course I am biased but I do think that I actually have the best mum in the world.”

David Harris and his Mum
David Harriss (Emmett) says: “Mum has always encouraged me to pursue what I desire and has supported me in every decision I make for myself, unconditionally. She has always allowed me to express my individuality freely as long as it makes me happy.”

Erika Heynatz and her Mum - Japan adventure 2011
Erika Heynatz (Brooke) says:“There have been so many times in my life I felt as if I have been swimming against the flow, and my mum has always encouraged me to ‘keep my antennae up and polished’, to honour my instincts, be true to myself, celebrate my individuality and make courageous choices every single time - regardless of what the rest of the world says or thinks. This support has meant the pursuit of my every creative dream, the actualisation of every wonderful adventure, and the drive to fulfil all that my heart desires.”
